Villers Bocage 1944

Villers Bocage (June 1944 - Normandy) is one of those actions that has always captured my imagination but seemed almost impossible to recreate at the scale of Rapid Fire.  Two books influenced me to have a go: Villers Bocage by George Forty in the excellent Battlezone Normandy series and Sledgehammers by Christopher Wilbeck. By widening the scope of the game and condensing the whole day's action into a single scenario I was able to come up with a workable solution.

The photo above illustrates the opening shots on turn 1.  The British advance guard moved through Villers Bocage to the high ground beyond are deployed "semi-tactical" when Michael Wittman's Tiger (middle of shot) and the rest of his company (foreground) take them by surprise.  In the scenario no movement or firing in turn 1 for the British player.

Steady reinforcements on both sides made this an interesting game with the final result very similar to the actual events on the day i.e. initial bloody nose to the Brits but with the German forces unable to take and hold Villers Bocage itself.

A series of photos from our game can be found on my Website:

Finally got around to getting this blog site up and going.  I have linked this to Rapid Fire WW2 gaming site and will mostly post info here about these games.  In 2007 I intend getting back into my two other areas of interest: (a) 28mm Zulu War and (b) 15mm Napoeloenic.

My usual service provider has changed its hosting arrangements and I am no longer abl to host my website http://home.worldoptions.com.au/fourpipers/rapid

I thought I would take the opportunity to upgrade to a more interactive approach.
